If someone is in danger
If a person is in immediate danger, call 000 first. Then let us know so we can make sure they are safe and report the incident.
How we keep people safe
- Worker screening. Every worker must hold a current NDIS Worker Screening Check before working with participants, and a NSW Working With Children Check before working with children. We also check references and qualifications.
- Code of Conduct. All workers follow the NDIS Code of Conduct and complete induction and ongoing training in safeguarding, incident management and recognising abuse and neglect.
- Person-centred supports. We get to know each participant, respect their choices and support them to speak up about anything that worries them.
- Risk planning. We assess risks with each participant and their supporters and review support plans regularly.
- Restrictive practices. We do not use restrictive practices unless they are authorised and part of an approved behaviour support plan, and we report any unauthorised use.
- Supervision. Our managers supervise and support workers, and act quickly on any concern.
Children and young people
We follow the NSW Child Safe Standards. Workers who support children hold a Working With Children Check and are trained to recognise the signs of harm. If we believe a child is at risk of significant harm, we report it to the NSW Child Protection Helpline on 132 111.
What counts as a safeguarding concern
- Physical, sexual, emotional or financial abuse
- Neglect, including not getting needed care, food, medication or support
- Exploitation, intimidation or discrimination
- Use of a restrictive practice that has not been authorised
- Any behaviour by a worker that breaches the NDIS Code of Conduct

When we receive a concern we will:
- Make sure the person is safe and get them any medical or other help they need.
- Report to police where a crime may have happened.
- Notify the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission of reportable incidents within the required timeframes (within 24 hours for the most serious incidents).
- Investigate, support the people affected and tell them what we are doing.
- Take action, including standing a worker down while we investigate where needed, and learn from what happened.
Raising a concern will never affect a participant's supports. You can also read our complaints and feedback process.
